What's in the iPhone Duo box

Apple ships the iPhone Duo with a 1-meter USB-C cable and no power adapter. Here's what you'll likely need to buy for fast charging, MagSafe, protection and Apple Pencil support.

Key facts

The iPhone Duo box contains the phone and a 1-meter USB-C Charge Cable, with no power adapter. Apple's fastest wired charging, up to 50% in around 20 minutes, needs a 60W-capable USB-C Power Delivery adapter, sold separately, and a 60W-capable USB-C cable; Apple's spec page doesn't give the in-box cable a wattage rating.

The iPhone Duo box holds the phone and a 1-meter USB-C charge cable, and nothing else. There's no power adapter, no MagSafe Charger and no Apple Pencil, according to the In the Box list on Apple's iPhone Duo spec page.

So the price on the receipt isn't quite the finished bill for most people. Here's what's missing, and who actually needs to buy it.

What Apple puts in the iPhone Duo box

Apple lists two items: the iPhone Duo itself, running iOS 27, and a USB-C Charge Cable (1 m). Apple describes the retail packaging as "100% fiber-based packaging" on the same spec page, but it doesn't give an environmental reason for leaving the adapter out.

Don't look for a SIM tool. Apple says the iPhone Duo uses dual eSIM and isn't compatible with physical SIM cards, so there's no tray to eject. Stickers aren't on Apple's In the Box list either.

One detail worth knowing: Apple's spec page doesn't give the in-box cable a wattage rating. Apple's charging footnote says its iPhone Duo fast-charge testing used "either USB-C Charge Cable or Apple MagSafe Chargers" with the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max, but it doesn't specify which USB-C Charge Cable, per the footnote on Apple's 40W adapter page. The same footnote says wired fast charge is supported with a 60W-capable (or higher) USB-C cable and USB PD power adapter.

The one thing most buyers need: a USB-C power adapter

Apple says the iPhone Duo can reach up to 50% in around 20 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter or higher, sold separately. The footnote specifies a USB Power Delivery adapter and a 60W-capable cable.

Apple's own match for that claim is the 40W Dynamic Power Adapter with 60W Max. Its product page footnote says Apple tested it with preproduction iPhone Duo units in July 2026. Its list price was $39 when Macworld covered it in February 2026, and 9to5Mac found it on sale for $34 on Oct 23. Those prices are dated to those reports and can change, so check before you buy.

Higher wattage alone may not be enough. Notebookcheck reported in September, before launch, that Apple's 96W and 140W MacBook adapters wouldn't hit the top iPhone 18 Pro rate, and that iPhone Duo was expected to share it, because they lack adjustable voltage. Apple's spec page doesn't list qualifying third-party chargers, so treat that as reporting rather than a rule.

Apple's store also lists a 20W USB-C Power Adapter, a 35W Dual USB-C Port Compact Power Adapter, and 70W, 96W and 140W USB-C adapters. Because Apple's spec page sets a 60W floor for the 20-minute figure, the 20W and 35W adapters won't reach it on paper.

Who doesn't need a new charger

If you already own a USB-C Power Delivery adapter, it should still charge the iPhone Duo, just more slowly than Apple's headline figure. 9to5Mac notes that plenty of people already own 20W chargers, and those won't deliver the fastest speeds.

Overnight chargers can probably skip the purchase. Anyone who tops up between meetings is the person a 60W-capable adapter is for.

MagSafe needs two separate purchases

Apple says MagSafe can reach up to 50% in around 30 minutes with a 35W adapter or higher paired with the MagSafe Charger, both sold separately. Apple rates MagSafe and Qi2 wireless charging at up to 25W.

Apple's store lists the MagSafe Charger in 1 m and 2 m lengths. iClarified's iPhone Duo accessories roundup gave their regular prices as $39 and $49 on Oct 23, so check current prices before buying. The trade-off is speed: on Apple's own numbers, MagSafe takes about 10 minutes longer to reach 50% than a 60W wired setup.

A case, and maybe a screen protector

No case comes in the box. Apple sells the iPhone Duo Case, a polycarbonate two-part design in Sand or Navy Blue, and the iPhone Duo Folio with Kickstand in TechWoven fabric in Taupe or Navy Blue, per MacRumors. Macworld listed them at $79 and $129 on Oct 21, and prices can change. The Folio covers only the back, according to MacRumors.

Apple Pencil isn't included

Apple lists iPhone Duo as compatible with Apple Pencil (USB-C), which costs $79 on Apple's Apple Pencil page as of Oct 30, 2026. Apple notes that hover isn't supported on iPhone Duo. Support arrived with iOS 27.2, which iCulture reported was available on Oct 26, and 9to5Mac reported that Apple Pencil (USB-C) is the only compatible model, so an Apple Pencil Pro won't work.

Bottom line

Budget for a 60W-capable USB-C adapter if fast wired charging matters to you, and a case for a phone that MacRumors reported starts at $1,999 (256GB) in the US at launch. Everything else is optional. Unboxing next? Our iPhone Duo setup guide covers what comes next.
